VIA Rail Canada Inc., the leader in passenger transportation inCanada, is currently seeking CHEFS, to work on board its trains. Based inWinnipegyou will be working the routes of Winnipeg-Toronto or Winnipeg-Vancouver.
Your main responsibility will be to plan and direct food preparation and cooking activities. You will prepare and cook meals and specialty foods including dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances. You will ensure quality of food and portion control. You will also manage the requisition of food, kitchen supplies and equipment. You will supervise cooks and kitchen staff, if required.
These positions are seasonal, with lay-offs at the end of October.
You will need to complete a three week full time training program. You will be compensated for the training at a rate of 10.25$ per hour. This training session will begin May 21st and must be successfully completed before obtaining a position as a Chef.
Training salary: $ 10.25 / hourly
Salary: $ 24.35 / hourly
You hold a current sanitation or food safe certificate and a Red Seal Certification. You have three years of experience in line cooking and a minimum of one year as a chef. You must be accustomed to working in a small and hot environment, washing dishes and working long days (up to 60 hours in 4 days). You must be available to work week-ends, holidays and be away from home for extended periods (approx. 4-5 days) .
