Based in Brandon, Manitoba, Koch Fertilizer Canada, ULC’s operations have been producing agricultural fertilizer products since 1967. We synthesize and blend nitrogen, phosphate, and sulfur products with ammonia, which we market primarily in the prairie provinces of Canada and the northern United States. PAYROLL AND BENEFITS SPECIALIST
Koch Fertilizer Canada is looking for an energetic, highly organized individual to join the Human Resources team. This individual will provide prompt, professional and high quality support to allow the organization to create value. This role offers a fast-paced working environment, and opportunities for career development within our growing organization! You will:
- Ensure our compensation and benefits programs enhance our ability to recruit and retain employees
- Rely on extensive experience and judgment monitoring payroll activities and program components to ensure effective department functioning, coordinate activities while utilizing a wide degree of creativity and latitude while ensuring compliance with financial, administrative, legal and year end process requirements
- Process bi-weekly payroll, including processing sick/bank time, holiday/vacation time, and conduct deductions such as garnishments, vacation time, insurance, etc. for all salaried and hourly unionized employees with sporadic additional on- and off-cycle payment processing per CBA and legal requirements
- Work with corporate accounting team to ensure that all payments are properly allocated
- Work with corporate resources/payroll provider (Payworks) to set up or remove new hires or terminated employees while ensuring all employee data and payroll information is accurate in HRIS and Payroll systems
- Advise on interpretation and the administration of compensation, benefits payroll and pensions
- Oversee the classification and rating of occupations for compensation purposes
- Analyze and modify compensation and benefits policies to establish competitive programs
- Assist in developing and monitoring automated fiscal systems for the purpose of analyzing, maintaining and providing information regarding assigned funds
- Prepare and oversee the preparation of a variety of payroll related documents (ie. invoices for overpayments, retirement plan transfers, payroll register, stop payments, worker’s compensation cheques, etc.)
- Research discrepancies of payroll information and/or documentation (ie. time sheets, leave time, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing
- Inform personnel and/or carriers and/or financial institutions regarding required documentation and/or procedures for the purpose of conveying information necessary to complete transactions
- Compile data from a variety of sources (ie. time sheets/payroll, salary adjustments, tax deposits, etc.) to analyze issues, ensuring compliance with all requirements, and/or monitoring program components
- Provide benefits/payroll-related support for any grievances, letters of agreement (LOA), letters of understanding (LOU), and collective bargaining agreement requirements in a unionized environment
The successful candidate must have a passion for the industry and will report to the Human Resources Manager.
The qualifications you have include:
- At least five (5) years of related payroll and benefits-related work experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field, or at least seven (7) years of equivalent combined education and experience of which three (3) years are at a senior level
- Advanced proficiency with accounting and/or payroll programs, applications and internal controls
- Experience processing salaries, bonuses and other remuneration with a high level of confidentiality
- Knowledge of audits, income tax forms, health benefits programs, retirement plans, etc.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Able to develop and implement strategies and process improvement ideas
- Demonstrated ability to build work relationships and communicate sensitively, effectively and professionally
- Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP), Certified Payroll Manager (CPM), and Certified Human Resources Processional (CHRP) designations are considered assets
- Experience working within a unionized environment, and using Payworks and/or Kronos programs is considered an asset
