Manitoba Dairy Ingredients (MDI) is a new plant facility, located in Winnipeg, currently in the design, engineering, and build phase with plant commissioning expected to occur in September 2017. The plant is a partnership between Vitalus Nutrition, Canada’s leading MPC producer (www.Vitalus.com) and Gay Lea Foods (www.gaylea.com), a dairy products cooperative in Canada. MDI is being engineered with state of the art filtration technology and set-up to be a flexible processor of specialty MPCs and butter. The plant is being designed to achieve and will be accredited with CFIA, FSSC 22000, ISO 9001, and SQF. MDI’s organization will be values driven, performance focused, and will engage progressive practices in human resources, employee engagement, and safety within the work environment. MDI management will utilize systems such as lean manufacturing to continually improve operational capabilities, efficiencies and returns.
We seek a Plant Manager who can be involved at the start of exciting undertaking and participate in all aspects of the project including the build, process flow design, acquisition of human resources, and development of operational plans and budgets. The individual will be located in Manitoba but will travel between the partner organizations as the project evolves.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary role of the Plant Manager is to oversee all aspects of overall manufacturing operations in the Manitoba Dairy Ingredients (MDI) plant facility including production planning and processes, maintenance, product quality and continuous improvement, safety, and plant administration including human resources. The primary objective of this position is to maximize the level of operational and quality performance in a manner that delivers on measures and goals and maximizes the level of financial performance of the MDI plant. The Plant Manager provides leadership to all employees within the facility in a manner that drives productivity, creates engagement and maintains a safe work environment.
Working collaboratively with the Director, Operations, this role includes active participation in annual business planning, organizational projects and key initiatives, cross company interactions, and developing positive relations with partner organizations.

To be considered for this newly created position you must meet the following minimum qualifications.
- 5+ years of progressive production experience within a dairy food-manufacturing environment. Minimum three years in management at a plant facility including cross-functional supervisor/management responsibilities.
- Understanding of how production planning contributes to company profitability.
- Relevant degree/diploma. I.E. Undergraduate degree in Science, Business or Engineering (Food, Manufacturing or Process).
- Strong people orientation balanced with an understanding of business needs.
- Experience working under a HACCP/ISO system and maintaining this system.
- Knowledge & application of lean manufacturing principles.
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems as well as Microsoft Office products including proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Navision knowledge a plus.
- Capability to work with internal departments, external partners, and diverse personalities in a manner that promotes positive relationships. Experience working within a culturally diverse work environment a plus.
